Why is self defense so important? It does not really seem a
necessity that everyone should know how to fight, but self defense is very
different from fighting. Sometimes just the awareness and the presence of mind
is enough to bail you out of trouble. Self defense is not about learning fancy
moves and looking to get into fights when there is the slightest hint of danger
but its more about getting away from a possible dangerous situation unscathed. If
you are thinking of taking up classes for learning some self defense then you
really should.
The first thing that everyone should know is that the best
way to get out of trouble is to not get into it. Avoid any sort of physical
confrontation especially if the odds are against you, consider the situation
carefully and don’t hesitate to part with your money if that’s what it takes to
bail you out of trouble.
Make some noise to ward off the attacker, it may or may not
work depending on where you are. If you are in a place where there are chances
of people being around, then you should definitely shout at the attacker. Shouting
is a good way to signal for some help, if you run, run towards well light areas
rather than blindly running in any direction. If you find more people, chances
are you are safe.
If all fails and you have to get into a physical
confrontation with the attacker, prepare yourself and remain calm. Target areas
like the eyes, the nose, the throat, the groin and the knees of the attacker if
you can.
·
Use of an open palm strike towards the face is
highly effective, if you pull it off then you are sure to stagger you attacker
even if momentarily so. You can easily cause some serious damage with a good
strike directed at the eyes, nose or even the lips of a person.
·
The karate chop can be used to do some handy
damage to a person’s neck. A simple knife hand strike delivered at the neck of
a person can do some damage. An elbow to the side of the neck is a more vicious
and a more damaging blow. Besides that you can also try hitting the voice box
with a karate chop.
·
Elbow and knee strikes are very handy and can
cause a lot of damage if used well. Use the knees to hit the groin of the attacker
and he will not get up after one strong hit. Use your elbows to strike as you
choose at the face or neck of an attacker. You can also use knees to hit the
face of an attacker if you manage to get a good grip on their head, however
this is a move that can be executed only post training.
·
Head butts are an excellent weapon that a lot of
people are unaware of, head butts can be used at close range situations where
an attacker may have control of certain parts of your body to do some damage as
well as turn the tables quickly.
·
Nails and teeth are also the body’s built in
weapons. In a situation where there is no other option, this is a very handy
tactic as nails and teeth can be used to do some instant damage.
Self defense should be a part of everyone’s lives as
situations can come up anytime with anyone where you may have to defend
yourself and even your loved ones from physical harm. Take up classes if you
need to but be sure to keep at least a few self defense tactics in mind.
