The long lost art of reading books

When was the last time you read a book from cover to cover? Reading is among the best habits that a person can acquire and no matter how much you have managed to read, there is always more that you can read up on. Reading helps you build not only language but comprehension too and the knowledge that you get from it always stands out. People who read regularly don’t have to struggle through conversations and can manage to express themselves well with the written word too.
Reading is also a fun way to build up imagination as we paint the pictures that the words paint on the canvas of our minds. Nothing replaces a book, nothing can replace the feeling of reading a book from cover to cover, intrigued by every coming chapter and anticipating every page as it turns. A lot has changed of late though as less and less people are reading books.

Reading is taught to us in schools and we limit ourselves to what we have to read instead of soaking up an entire universe of information. There are so many different genres of books that we can read and each one adds to our knowledge in ways that we don’t even think is possible. A book is among the best ways to kill time; a book is also among the best travel companions to have on a journey. The wealth of information that books give us is not describable in words and yet we could easily count the number of books that we have read.
The onset of digitized readers has also brought about a decline in the sale of books as readers are now switching to a digital platform to read books. The decline in the production of books has also led to a decline in the readership at libraries, in fact libraries stand deserted today. Libraries are nothing short of temples of knowledge and yet how many of us can say we have an active membership at a library? Books are among the best ways to educate oneself, however we choose to read less and less as we move forward in life, we pretend and we tell ourselves that we don’t have time when time can easily be made. Read a few pages in the toilet or as you drink your tea, read a few pages on the way back from work in the cab or in the bus, read a few pages instead of wasting your time on things that are non productive in any way.
Reading is an essential habit for anyone and everyone and yet we often choose to ignore it. Through centuries we have passed down valuable information using books and we have relied on them to teach us important things about our history. Through centuries wonderful stories have been passed down through books and even today there is a lot available for us to read to soak up and understand about the world we live in but we choose not to read and remain ignorant.
