There are some books, which make you feel ‘Thank God, I have been able to read this one’.  If you ask me or anybody else for that matter, their one best novel of life, I am sure they would err just like I have done a lot of times.

But there are so many of them which you just cannot forget. Some few make it to that special list which would essentially comprise of all those books that not only made you laugh, cry, rejoice, forgive and travel the world sitting on a couch; but also understand, empathize and feel those whom you have never known.

So, here we are again with our very own list of top 3 books, which you must read whenever you can because they have added a lot of value to our lives, conditioned us into being who we are today, and what we passionately feel for.

                1. WE THE LIVING- Ayn Rand

When I started this one, least did I expect that she would surpass her previously written Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged. We will be spellbound by the quality of understanding of human beings that she has achieved.

She calls it an autobiography in the closest sense of the term as Kira's ideals, dreams and characteristics were hers but their experiences have differed on various grounds.

We the Living is essentially the story of a wondrous, intelligent and ambitious girl who sees the world not from the lenses of a pseudo socialist society but from those of freedom, dignity and the right to possess what we are capable of earning. In her battle to save the man whom she loves from the clutches of the Soviet warlords she abandons her career, uses another man and ends up in losing everything that she had. A magnanimous tale of spiralling emotions ,dreams v/s state realities,We the Living is a must read for all those who believe in dreaming regardless of whether they succeed in fulfilling them or not.
Though written at a completely different set up of time, we can connect it to the lives that we lead today, what is our idea of Authority, how do we wish it to be vis a vis with what it is in REAL!!!!

                      2. SOUTH OF THE BORDER, WEST OF THE SUN- Haruki Murakami

Haruki Murakami has made a tiny departure from his other writings and has encompassed his words around the tumult and turbulence that are associated with the passion that one experiences from undying love, a sense of completeness vis a vis incompleteness in life. It is an awfully wonderful and well written book.

Love remains unscathed and unchanged..no matter where you go..how far you get..and however many dimensions you add to your life. Haruki Murakami has beautifully projected the relationship between Shimamato and Hajime, something that we all can possibly relate to; however big we become in our lives, we can never stop ourselves from desiring that lost someone who had been able to look deep into our souls and stun us with the fact, that somebody can know us better than we do . Hajime's listlessness through adolescence and adulthood, his inability to come to terms with Shimamato's permanent disappearance from his life has been written beautifully. It almost makes the reader feel helpless and dismal to see the pain that the boy goes through. Shimamato's unexpected reappearance in his life takes all that he has built in his 37 years of life for a toss..and he gets sucked into the whirlwind of emotions and his life from the past.

   3. MEMORIES OF MY MELANCHOLY WHORES- Gabriel Garcia Marquez

An extraordinary and elusive novel by the great author; how he pitches us into the valleys of passion and desire is enormous and a skill truly mastered by Marquez. The story revolves around a secretive and mysterious writer who after a life full of sexual misdemeanours and promiscuity falls in love at the age of 90 in the truest sense of the term with a sleeping adolescent in a brothel...witness the drama unfold with every passing page...a remarkably beautiful novel, and a must read!!

HAPPY READING!!
