In the wake of an impending global energy crisis, the small
ways in which we can save up on energy become really important. The magnified
effects of mass savings need not be explained, there are many ways in which we
can all save and help others save that little bit of energy.
Switch off the lights and fans after use. Everyone has heard
this, how many of us practice it? It’s hard to imagine what we were doing 20
years ago before such a massive attack of mobile electronics hit us on a very
regular day like today. The energy requirements of an average person have
increased substantially, this increase in consumption means that we are
surrounded by electric, electronic equipment most of the time. How many of us
leave our appliances, gadgets and chargers plugged in even after we are done
using them? Even that simple thing consumes a significant chunk of energy at
homes. A lot of us luxuriously consume energy on the pretext that we pay the
electric bills but the issue is soon becoming bigger than the bill very soon.
With changing times
the power consumption has increased greatly, but the power sources have not
been replenished, have not really been developed. Solar power needs more of a
push in every sector, it is the best example of a near self-perpetual energy source.
Heating water with the use of solar power is very simple and effective and
should be done everywhere. The use of solar power in most parts of the world
has been restricted to plants which need to change; people also need access to
cheap solar equipment so that energy problems can be solved in many parts of
the world.
Besides that vehicles are also a huge source of the energy
that we consume on a daily basis. For me personally taking a car out for one
person does not make sense, many of us take out our own personal vehicles to
work instead of taking the bus, it also works and it sure saves that little bit
of gas. Car pools are a rare sight and most people prefer their own personal
space, also personally contributing to pollution and consuming unnecessary
energy in the process. Everyone should take more of an active interest towards
conservation be it in the smallest ways. Save a little bit of fuel everyday and
see how much difference that will make. We import more than 70% of the fuel
that we use, how much does that really cost the common man, does anyone even
want to get into that?
soon these pipelines may run dry |
Your participation in public transport can really help make
it better, more educated people need to step up to make the environment better
for everyone. Lead by example in ways that you can and people will follow,
start walking if you live close to work, a couple of kilometers is no big deal,
your health will also improve. I come across people who don’t really walk at
all, taking the bike or the car out for the smallest of things is a habit that a
lot of people have developed and that energy is unnecessarily consumed.
