“Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they
are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of
teachers.”

Reading a book for me is like playing a game with a virtual
reality headset on. It helps me leave my physical body behind and helps me
travel through time and space into the mind of not just the author but also
into the world that is painted onto the pages of the book. Besides that it’s a great
way to learn new things, it is a great way for a lot of us to understand and
realize that we are not alone. Reading is the best way to improve communication
and it also helps develop a sharp sense of language.
The Color Purple – Alice Walker
The Color Purple is Alice Walker’s most acclaimed piece of writing.
She writes about the journey of a young woman, Celie who is constantly hounded
by the abusive men in her life. The story is well told with the use of letters
that the young woman initially addresses to God, praying for a release. Later
her letters are addressed to the people near her. As a child, she was brutally
beaten and raped by her own stepfather and then later on by a husband who uses
her for beating up and the occasional sexual pleasure. Celie however escapes
from her husband’s grasp and sets about building a life on her own where her
own realization, awakening and awareness of the self comes to the fray.
Jonathan Livingston Seagull – Richard Bach
Jonathan Livingston Seagull is a story of a free spirited
seagull who is bored with the everyday struggles over food. He loves to fly and
in the story he launches himself on a pursuit to do more than just exist. He is
eventually thrown out of his flock for his radical, non conformist ideas but he
does not stop there and continues his pursuit of flight perfection. Leading an
idyllic life, he two meets other gulls like him who take him to a place where
there are others like him. He thrives in this new setting and goes on to
befriend Chiang who is the wisest of all Gulls who teaches him to do more than
just fly. Jonathan returns to earth to pass on what he knows. The first of his
students also goes on to become a teacher like him and he continues in his
journeys.
A brief history of time- Stephen Hawking
This is a book that every science geek has read, and so have
truckloads of other people. It is a book that was written by Stephen Hawking to
help people have a clearer picture of what the universe is all about. This book
is a masterpiece of writing work as it breaks down and explains highly complex
concepts about the universe, its origins and how it works to the layman. The book
has sold over ten million copies worldwide and is still selling. A must-have
book for anyone who has looked out at the night sky and wondered what is really
out there. A final chapter on wormholes was also added by the author after some
of his theoretical observations were proved via observation.
